“Parker’s Mill”
Located on the Uwharrie River near the Jackson Creek Community in west
central Randolph Co., North Carolina. The mill was built by
Victor Parker in 1933 and the store added in 1937. The painting
depicts the mill and store circa.1940 prior to its closing in 1945. A
new bridge spans the river at this location; the original bridge, while
no longer in use, is a State Historic Site. The original dam was
destroyed and then replaced with a larger structure to impound the
waters of Lake Reese, part of Asheboro’s water supply.
